Are the bags made with real leather?
Absolutely! ALL of our bags are handcrafted from locally sourced 100% genuine leather. We even use leather or suede for the lining.
Why do you do all of the sewing by hand instead of using a sewing machine?
Each item is sewn with a saddle stitch using waxed thread and two harness needles. This creates a superior finish as the thread passes through each hole twice, doubling the strength of the stitches. With machine-sewn lockstitch, all of the stitches can unravel if one stitch breaks. It can take up to four times longer to produce a hand-stitched bag but the final product is more durable than a machine-sewn bag.
Why is my parcel not tracking?
When your order is packed, we will send you the Aramex tracking number. We use the Aramex Dropbox system and your parcel will be collected by the courier after 3pm on the next working day. Please note that your parcel will only track after it has been scanned by the courier upon collection from the Dropbox. With this in mind, it may take up to 24-36 hours before your parcel appears in the tracking system. Please don’t panic if your parcel is not tracking. We assure you that you will receive your parcel and we will take full responsibility for it until it is delivered to you.
Do you have a wholesale price list?
Unfortunately not. Our business is small and our prices are very reasonable, and so we focus on selling directly to customers. However, we offer a small discount if 10 or more items are purchased. Email HotPinkFrog@mweb.co.za for more information.
Do you stock shops on consignment?
We do not stock shops on consignment because our business is currently small and stock is limited. However, we are happy to give a small discount to shops if more than 10 items are purchased.
Do you have a shop?
We do not have a physical shop. We sold our bags for several years at the monthly Made in the Cape Artisan Market inside Cavendish Square in Cape Town. We have also been a permanent trader at the Kirstenbosch Craft Market for many years. All upcoming markets and exhibitions (such as Decorex and Homemakers) have been cancelled owing to the COVID-19 pandemic but our digital doors are open and you can purchase online.
Where are you based?
Our studio is based in Hout Bay but it is not open to the public. Our bags can be purchased online and delivered to you by courier. Otherwise, please sign up for our newsletter and we will let you know when and where we will be exhibiting in the coming months.
Do you do custom orders?
In order to keep our prices reasonable, we regret that from 01 February 2022 we are no longer able to do any custom orders. We apologise for any inconvenience caused.
Can I do an EFT?
You are welcome to do an EFT. To streamline the process, please send a screen shot of the bag you wish to purchase along with your full name, delivery address, and cellphone number to HotPinkFrog@mweb.co.za. We will then reserve the bag for 2 hours and will send you an invoice with banking details. If we do not receive the proof of payment within 2 hours, we can no longer reserve the item for you. If the proof of payment is received, we will send the bag to you as soon as the payment reflects in our bank account.
Can I order a bag that is out of stock?
Yes, you can if the leather is available! Please send an email to HotPinkFrog@mweb.co and we will send you a payment link. We will make the bag after payment is received and it will be ready to ship within 3 working days.
Why do the colours keep changing?
Colourful leather is in very short supply in South Africa. We buy the colours that are available when we can but we are often not able to source the same colours again. The upside of this is that we make our bags in small batches and there will be very few other people with the same bag. The downside is that a bag you like today may not be available next month when the leather is finished!
